Why is the Description on the Catalogue Item locked

Once a purchase order has been raised on a Catalogue Item, then Users are no longer able to modify the following fields,

  1. The Work Group
  2. The Level 2 Category
  3. The Level 3 Category,
  4. The Description,and 
  5. the UOM.

This is because the description has been used in one or more Purchase Orders, which is an external document sent to a vendor, and therefore must be traceable to the original document generated.

If the description (or UOM) need to be changed, the the Catalog item shoud be made "Inactive" and a new Item created with the new or corrected description.
